Little Greene at Horse Guards

Little Greene

Little Greene paint colours were recently selected for a restoration project at Horse Guards in London. This historic military building hosts the ceremony of Trooping the Colour to mark the official birthday of the British Sovereign. Our Colour Specialist, Simon, analysed layers of paint from inside the building to recreate a bespoke colour named ‘Horse Guards Green’.

A grand eighteenth-century building in the heart of London, Horse Guards is the official entrance to Buckingham Palace and St James’s Park. Inside, it is still used as a military base and is partly open to the public as it houses the Household Cavalry Museum.

Our Colour Specialist, Simon, created a number of bespoke shades including an elegant pea green for the Royal Staircase. An expert in recreating authentic paint colours from the past, Simon analysed 18 layers of historic decoration to uncover the beautiful shade of green. The handcrafted shade is thought to originate from the early nineteenth century and was lovingly named ‘Horse Guards Green’.

The Manager of our Chelsea Showroom in London, Tom, recommended a number of colour combinations for the building. Our rich deep blue, Dock Blue, complements luxurious furnishings and accessories to create a dark and cocooning sitting area. In a separate stairway, the pale yellow, Sunlight, brings a bright and uplifting atmosphere while remaining sympathetic to the historic setting.
